Seek Ye My Face

This is an incredibly beautiful video, made from images found in the Fayoum Oasis in Egypt, which were made for burial purposes during the Roman period in Egypt through the 3rd c. A.D.  The style of painting is very realistic, although according to the wikipedia entry, the faces are painted according to various stock types, and varied by hair style, beards, and the like.  Scholars believe the style had an influence on Byzantine icon painting, and it is no wonder, given their haunting beauty, which reveals the immortal part of man’s being in such simplicity.  Contemplate, and enjoy.
